As the Dominicans come close to the culmination of the 28th Family Rosary Crusade, Rev. Fr. Napoleon Sipalay, Jr. O.P. emphasized the faithful’s persistence in prayer in his sermon on FRC’s 9th day, October 6, Thursday.
“Ask and you will receive; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you,” these were the words written in the Gospel yesterday.
Fr. Sipalay opened his homily with a recollection of his experience with a youth leader who begged questions of identity and purpose. He reminded Christians of their role as children of God whose purpose is patterned in His plans.
He further explained the significance of synodality as it can be of service for everyone to pursue persistence in prayer.
“This is listening in order to be one heart and one soul, to be with God".
In the faithful’s journey, their actions must be in communion with the Church in walking forward with a mission as the people of God.
“The Lord answers our prayers, but sometimes the answer is no,” he reiterated.
He also reminded the value of prayerful persistence to everyone — for a friend who gave in to generosity and for a father who cared unconditionally. Likewise, he told the faithful that the Lord, in their prayer, knows and gives what is best for His people.
“We listen to what the Lord is telling us. We listen to those around us,” he added.
The mass presider praised the Dominicans’ spirit practiced during tghmass, the highest form of prayer and synodality. “The St. Dominic community is very much alive in terms of faith,” he described.
Finally, he closed his homily as he put Mother Mary’s role at the forefront highlighting the lessons of the Christian faith as light to the faithful's understanding. Fr. Sipalay, OP. called the faithful to mirror Mary’s example: her uttered yes through the fiat and her soul that magnifies the Lord through the magnificat.
“Kung anuman ‘yung ating bokasyon sa buhay na ito, isang tao lamang ang ating halimbawa — si Maria (Whatever our vocation is in this life, our example is only one person — Mary),” Fr Sipalay ended.#
