FRC 2021 Day 5: The cross is the symbol of love - sacrificial and unconditional

by Aileen Tanjoco and Alyssa Bautista

Inculcating to the laity the meaning and significance of contemplation, marriage, and love in accordance with the Dominican values and the Church’s teachings is center of reflection for the fifth day of novena-mass themed “Maria, Bigkis ng Mapayapa at Nagkakaisang Sambahayan”.

In his homily, the mass presider Rev. Fr. Dario V. Cabral, Rector and Parish Priest, emcouraged Dominicans to live up to their dictum of contemplating and translating to others the importance of Jesus’ message.

Rev. Fr. Cabral highlighted the value of being a wise believer of God. According to him, our Catholic faith is filled with complications that require thorough contemplation, not just emotions. He added that people cannot share what they have learned from the mass without understanding it first.

Furthermore, he said that marriage should be completely contemplated and sanctified so it could last for better and worse, and amid sickness and health. He enumerated how love is diversely defined in today’s world and emphasized that the cross is the symbol of Love. Jesus perfectly demonstrated the love that was willing to tolerate all pains and sufferings.

As Dominicans, we are reminded to be contemplative. We are called to recognize and distinguish the message of the scriptures in the middle of this complicated world. Along with our reliance on the blessed scriptures, let us also not forget to be respectful and loving like how a Dominican should be. May we all be able to give and receive from one another the kind of love Jesus has for us - a love that is sacrificial and unconditional.
